Why I Remade My App From Scratch
Snippeta 2.0 is here! The app has been rebuilt from the ground up to address user feedback and modernize the overall experience. Last year, we decided to completely revamp Snippeta in order to make it work better, look better, and of course, make more money.
Below, I’ll explain why we rebuilt the app, what changed, and how these changes will (hopefully!) make Snippeta more enjoyable and productive.
The Design / UX Was Very Outdated
Old design issues mentioned by users included:
- Text too small
- Washed-out colors
- Hard to edit text
- No search feature
User review excerpt (shared on the App Store):
“This app almost does what I want it to. It saves small snippets of copied text or code in a list that I can recopy with a single click to use wherever I’m working. However, I’m uninstalling to find something else. On my mac, the UI is clunky and hard to use. The snippet entries have too much padding, the font size is super small and hard to read, and I can’t collapse the window down small enough…”
What I loved about the old design
- The strong color palette and bright visuals gave Snippeta a unique personality.
What I hated about the old design
- It was too opinionated. You either loved or hated the bold color blocks.
- The UI was dated and lacked easy customization.
How We Fixed It
- Bigger, clearer text. We improved font sizing and overall spacing.
- Better contrast. Sharper, more modern color scheme—no more washed-out look.
- A more professional and minimalistic feel. Simplified the layout so it’s intuitive for both new and existing users.
- Added themes. Users can pick from multiple theme styles to find what suits them best.
- Search function. Quickly find any snippet without scrolling through endless lists.
Result? Snippeta 2.0 feels more flexible and user-friendly, offering a cleaner experience on both iOS and macOS.
The Code and Underlying Technology Was Outdated
Originally, Snippeta was built using C# and Xamarin. While Xamarin was a wonderful cross-platform solution for a while, it’s now near end-of-life. My day-to-day development stack shifted heavily toward JavaScript, so it became increasingly difficult to maintain Snippeta as it was.
Why We Chose React Native
- Speed & Ease of Use. React Native is much faster to prototype in than my old Xamarin setup.
- Active Community & Ecosystem. There’s a huge developer community with a rich ecosystem of plugins and libraries.
- Shared Codebase Across Platforms. Like Xamarin, React Native also enables code sharing across iOS and Android, but with JavaScript—my primary language these days.
Bottom line? Moving to React Native reduces friction and ensures Snippeta can evolve smoothly.
We Had a Lot of Feedback (Good and Bad) From Users
User feedback is critical to building a better product. Before the 2.0 rebuild, we’d received a variety of App Store reviews pointing out issues like:
- Tiny font sizes
- Too much padding
- Registration and syncing confusion
- Missing “search” feature
“Why do you have to register to sync clippings? Why not just use iCloud? The font size is way too small. Plenty of space to enlarge it!” – Past review excerpt
How We’re Addressing Feedback
- Optional registration. Users can now enjoy the core features without creating an account.
- iCloud vs. Snippeta Cloud. We introduced a new, optional Snippeta Cloud service for syncing snippets across devices. We realize some folks prefer iCloud, but Snippeta Cloud offers cross-platform convenience for those who want more robust features.
- Better text sizing and formatting. No more squinting or fiddling with overly padded snippet entries.
- Search and easy editing. Quickly find or edit any snippet on the fly.
Pro Tip: Gathering feedback outside of the App Store can help you fix issues before negative reviews appear.
But even negative reviews can be incredibly valuable—they serve as direct user stories about what’s frustrating or missing.

User Reviews That Shaped Our Rebuild
“Poor on macOS”
2 out of 5 stars
“I’m uninstalling to find something else. On my Mac, the UI is clunky and hard to use...”
This review highlighted the need for responsive design on macOS. We made sure the interface can resize gracefully to smaller or side-by-side windows. We also improved how snippet editing icons display so they’re never hidden behind scrollbars.
“Good concept and design...”
3 out of 5 stars
“The font size is way too small. There’s plenty of space to enlarge it. And I don’t like having to put a title to each clipping. It should be optional.”
We responded by allowing optional titles and introduced more flexible text sizing options. Now, you can create snippet titles only if you want to.
“I love this app!”
5 out of 5 stars
“It was a hassle having to go back and forth copying and pasting from my notes... But this app makes my life much easier!!!”
Positive feedback like this reminds us why we build Snippeta: to save time and streamline your workflow. The new 2.0 version aims to double-down on that simplicity and convenience.
